Improving Downtown Transit

RIPTA is planning to revamp the transit system that connects the College Hill, downtown, and Upper South Providence neighborhoods and is holding a series of community meetings next week to discuss those plans.
The meetings are the outcome of a 2010 RIPTA report that recommended new bus hubs on the West Side and College Hill, adding faster, 20-minute routes, opening 20 new park-and-ride locations cities around Providence, and developing a street-car system in downtown Providence.
The following open house meetings are scheduled:

Wednesday, September 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Edmund Flynn Elementary School, 220 Blackstone St., Providence. Informal drop-in open house, with brief formal presentation at 6 p.m.
Thursday, September 23 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at The Commerce Center, 30 Exchange Terrace, Providence.
