Three RI Correctional Officers Injured in Attack Outside ACI in Cranston
Monday, June 20, 2016
Three correctional officers were injured just outside of the ACI in Cranston on Saturday, when a man who appeared to be under the influence of drugs attacked a perimeter officer on the grounds.
"It's one of the craziest things I've seen, and I've been doing this for 32 years," said Richard Ferruccio, President of the Rhode Island Brotherhood of Correctional Officers. "This person was under the influence of something, preliminarily it looks to be bath salts."
RIBCO posted about the incident on their Facebook page, and Ferruccio noted in subduing the individual, three officers were sent to the hospital.

"This could have ended badly, but it didn't," said Ferruccio.
RIBCO Post
"So proud of the Officers at Medium Security tonight with great restraint they subdued a deranged individual who breached our inner perimeter. This man attacked our perimeter officer with punches and [extensive] amounts of spit. It took upwards of five officers and and application of spray and lot muscle to get him cuffed. He punched another officer in the face and caused a nasty shoulder injury on another officer. He scratched and clawed the [perimeter] officer. He continued to fight with the state police who had to put a spit mask on him. Officers showed great restraint by not shooting this individual.
Hoping for speedy recovery for these guys. The job is becoming more dangerous for us. Stay diligent my brothers and sisters. On another note i am extremely disappointed that no management came to check on these guys. The good thing was our officers showed and outpouring of support to for there fellow injured officers. Please share so all our officers can see what happened."
