Second Place Top School: Block Island High School

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Block Island’s tiny student body allows the school and its teachers to provide its students with both close attention and generous resources, two factors that proplled it into our second-best slot.  The school’s 100% graduation rate (one of only three schools in the state with this rate in 2008) and strong SAT scores exhibit the effectiveness of its intimate arrangement.

With a total school population smaller than the size of some high school classes, Block Island School pulls more than its weight in our school rankings. Independent education sites confirm what we found—the Block Island School gets an 8 out of 10, according to GreatSchools.org and city-data.com gives it a grade of 89 out of 100.

What school took top honors?

I'm glad to see my alma mater ranked so high; I received a truly great education.
