Monday, February 25, 2013

Mayor Taveras is a finalist in an online video competition co-sponsored by The Huffington Post and Bloomberg Philanthropies that allows readers to vote on their favorite idea among those submitted by Mayors across the country.

Taveras's submission calls for expansion of reading programs aimed at improving literacy among children of lower-income families.

The Mayor will be reading, along with 7 other Mayors and the Governor, head of the Dept. of Health, etc. on March 11th in RI schools - over 75,000 children to hear about good health, good food, and literacy! These mayors can be role models for efforts like this....taking the creative approach. The program is www.isyourhairmadeofdonuts.com....

I am going to drop this on the parents. It is your job to read to your kids. If you don't speak english learn to while teaching it to your kids.

Mayor I appreciate what you and and the Department of Health, Education and anyone else involved in helping children, but it's time for the "State" to stop taking responsibility for what parents need to be doing.
