Groups Gather for “Faithful Fridays” at Planned Parenthood

Saturday, July 31, 2010

Street counselors gathered Friday morning in an attempt to stop potential patients from going to Planned Parenthood. Groups that participate in this counseling include Rhode Island Right for Life, 40 Days for Life, and Operation Rescue.

These groups gather every Friday for what they call “Faithful Fridays”. The feeling of the area is very different, with both the counselors and Planned Parenthood volunteers in very close proximity.

Outside the building was very quiet, until a patient would walk in or out. Then, the patient, or potential patient, would receive a barrage of questions or remarks from the street counselors. One street counselor would continue to shout, “Jesus wants you to have this baby!”

One has to question whether or not this is right for the counselors to set up outside Planned Parenthood, especially considering the clinic is used for more than abortion.

Watch the video to see interviews with the street counselors. Planned Parenthood was contacted for a statement but did not reply in time for deadline. In order to respect the privacy of the patients, none of them have been recorded on video.
