A Massachusetts and New Hampshire state police trooper will face criminal charges for beating a Worcester man back in May. The video was taken by a TV news helicopter. The charges were announced on Tuesday by New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph A. Foster.
Massachusetts State Trooper Joseph Flynn, 32, and New Hampshire State Trooper Andrew Monaco, 31, were arrested on multiple charges of simple assault, according the the New Hampshire Attorney General.
The man beaten was 50-year-old Worcester resident Richard Simone. He led police on multi-state chase that ended in Nashua, New Hampshire. In the video Simone gets out of the car and surrenders, but then is assaulted by police.
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTTrooper Flynn faces two counts of simple assault and Trooper Monaco faces three counts. Both officers were released on personal recognizance bail of $2,000 and $3,000, respectively.
Because they were both on duty law enforcement officers at the time the acts were committed, the charges are subject to an enhanced penalty pursuant to RSA 651:6, I(h).
Trooper Flynn and Trooper Monaco are scheduled to be arraigned on September 13, 2016 at 8:15 a.m. in the 9th Circuit Court – District Division in Nashua.
