The state Senate has approved a bill that allows child support payments to be continued under certain conditions, according to a news release from the Senate Minority office.

The bill allows child support payments that have been terminated, suspended, or expired to be re-established by a court if the child has a severe mental or physical impairment.

“This bill closes a loophole in a law we passed several years ago that allows for child support to be awarded to children who pass the age of majority to be eligible for support if they meet certain requirements,” said Sen. David Bates, R-Barrington, Bristol.
