Sen. Reed Announces $420K for Fire Departments

Monday, May 10, 2010

Senator Jack Reed today announced $420,000 in federal funding for fire departments in West Warwick, North Cumberland, and West Greenwich.

“I am pleased to have helped secure federal funding for these fire departments to purchase state-of-the-art equipment and upgrade their technology,” Reed said. “We rely on our firefighters, and they do outstanding work. It is imperative they have the equipment and training to do their jobs safely and effectively so they can protect themselves while they are protecting our communities.”

The West Warwick Fire Department is getting $247,000 to buy a pumper truck. North Cumberland is using $117,000 to acquire a new high-tech dispatch system and mobile data terminals. In West Greenwich, the Hianloland Fire Company is receiving $57,000 for three expenditures: training firefighters, buying protective equipment, and oxygen tanks.
