Save the Bay Calls on Governor to Fill Council Posts

Wednesday, October 06, 2010

The Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) desperately needs additional members, announced Save the Bay Executive Director Jonathan Stone.

The council, which regulates the use of coastal and marine resources and manages public access to and hazards associated with coastal areas, marinas and harbors, cancelled a meeting last Tuesday due to a lack of a quorum. The cancellation caused “expense, inconvenience and delay,” according to Stone.

Save The Bay has urged Governor Don Carcieri to submit nominations to the state Senate as soon as possible, but, according to Stone, "it is unlikely the Governor and the Senate will proceed with appointments before the next session."

"We consider it vitally important to convey to Gov. Carcieri’s successor the urgency of restoring the Council to its full complement as dictated by statute," he said.
