The unemployment rate in Rhode Island has edged up from 11.4% in October to 11.6% in November, according to the state Department of Labor and Training.

According to the Department of Labor report, this is the first increase month-to-month in the state unemployment rate since December 2009. The rate is still down compared to November 2009’s reported rate of 12.5%.
This follows the national unemployment rate, which stayed even at 9.6% for three months preceding November, and then was reported at 9.8% for that month.

The DLT report also noted that the average weekly claim load for Rhode Islanders receiving Unemployment Insurance recipients was down 2.9%, or 966 individuals, from the October numbers.

The Report also states that the number of Rhode Island-based jobs dropped by 3,200, or 0.7% between November 2009 and November 2010, in sectors including Professional & Business Services, Educational Services, Manufacturing, and Retail Trade, among others.
