Speaker of the House Nick Mattiello

The Rhode Island Latino Political Action Committee, Rhode Island National Organization for Women and the Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence are calling on voters in District 15 to vote against Nick Mattiello is his race against GOP National Committeeman Steve Frias.

“Since the beginning of Nicholas Matiello’s tenure as Speaker, major pieces of legislation have failed to get a vote and we are calling for new leadership to bring back Democracy to the State House” said RILPAC President Joseph Molina Flynn. Vice President Marcela Betancur added “We are frustrated that legislation that affects all Rhode Island communities is often held up in committee—a situation that Speaker Mattiello has bragged about in campaign literature. Instead, the Speaker favors close friends and lobbyists who fill his campaigns with contributions.”

According to RILPAC, release, "[the organization] believes that District 15 is ready for new representation and the Rhode Island House of Representatives is ready for a change at the top. RILPAC has advocated for policies that will strengthen our State by leveraging diversity as a strength. Specifically, we have advocated for driver’s licenses for all undocumented immigrants, a policy that would have a positive impact for Rhode Island’s economy. This effort has been stalled by Speaker Mattiello. We are asking for new leadership that will allow the issue to come up for a floor vote in the upcoming legislative session. As a nonpartisan organization, we hope residents of District 15 will vote to end the corruption that currently exists at the State House and send a message to Rhode Island that we are better and can do better for our State."
