RI Gun Control Activist Slams Mattiello for Touting “School Safety” Hours After Teen Killed in Prov

Hours after a 15-year-old was gunned down and killed outside of the Providence Career and Tech Academy, Speaker of the House Nicholas Mattiello -- who represents District 15 in Cranston -- took to Facebook to tout "pro-active measures" under his leadership to "keep our kids safe in schools."
"Several pro-active measures have been taken, under my leadership, to keep our students safe in schools. The Cranston members of the House of Representatives provided the necessary funding to the Police Department to purchase 4 vehicles for school resources officers to patrol every school in our city. #NickinNovember #District15 #Cranston," Mattiello's campaign posted Wednesday night.

"So purchasing 4 police cars is keeping students safe? Did that help this young man in Providence? How exactly does a police car keep a child safe from guns that are easily accessible? How does a police car keep our children from being mowed down because we won’t take bold steps like our neighbors in Mass?
A Resource Officer was reportedly a witness to the event unfolding and was unable to prevent a child from being killed. A police car would not have benefited that child today."
Mattiello, who has an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association, topped the list of "RI’s Top Elected Officials Who Take the Most Gun Lobby Money" earlier in 2018.
