RI Foundation to Present Best Practice Awards to Five Nonprofit Organizations

The Rhode Island Foundation will present five nonprofit organization with its 2015 Best Practice Awards on Tuesday, May 12 at 5 p.m. The presentation will take place at the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, located on 500 Exchange St., in Providence. 

The Foundation will honor work that ranges from preparing incarcerated Rhode Islanders for release from the Adult Correctional Institution to an advocacy campaign that led to the creation of financial literacy standards for public schools. 

This years recipients include the Rhode Island Jumpstart Coalition of Warwick, Green & Healthy Homes of Providence, the Boys & Girls Club of East Providence, OpenDoors of Providence and Girls Rock Rhode Island of Providence.

“Our recipients emerged from a highly competitive process and an impressive group of nominees. There is something instructive in each of their extraordinary stories that can help any nonprofit accomplish more,” said Jill Pfitzenmayer, vice president of the Foundation’s Initiative for Nonprofit Excellence (INE). 

All recipients will receive a $1,000 grant, a video about their work and tuition waivers for any INE professional development workshop or seminar in the next 12 months. 

The Rhode Island Foundation is the largest and most comprehensive funder of nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island. Last year, the Foundation awarded $34.8 million in grants to organizations that addressed various issues across the sate. 

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island is the state's leading health insurer and covers more than 600,000 members.
