It has not been the best of times, and some think it's been the worst of times. But as we close the book on 2011, we know it's been a year of newsmakers and events in Rhode Island. It always is.
Who, then, were the RI people and events that dominated this year? Who made the biggest splashes? Who lead? Who stumbled? Who were RI's biggest newsmakers, and why?
Who were the Top 11 in 2011?
We turned to a post-election year at the state and city level and found much that affected us, from the highest level of statewide politics to the smallest corner of our smallest city. We found issues that held our attention for nearly all of the year, and sometimes pitted us against each other on the State House steps in protest as well as in the commentary boxes of GoLocalProv and the threads on Facebook. We found Rhode Islanders leading charges and making waves.
