Rhode Island ranked the worst state for student debt, according to WalletHub.

Methodology

For this study, WalletHub analyzed 50 states and the District of Columbia across seven key metrics.

These metrics included average student debt, unemployment rate, and percentage of students with past-due loan balances.

Rhode Island also placed last for the highest unemployment rate for people aged 24 to 34.

Seven in 10 college seniors (71%) who graduated last year had student loan debt, with an average of $29,400 per borrower, according to a new report released by the Institute for College Access and Success. According to the Institute’s Project on Student Debt, Rhode Island has the fifth highest student debt in the country, but what about the state's individual institutions?
