Rhode Island College Announces 2015 Alumni Award Winners

Rhode Island College has announced their 2015 Alumni Awards winners and Honor Roll Recipients who will be honored on Thursday, May 7 at 5:30 p.m. in the college's Donovan Dining Center. 

“Our 2015 Alumni Awards recipients demonstrate the value of a RIC degree and the rewards of civic engagement and service to the college and the community,” said RIC President Nancy Carriuolo.

The Honorees

James White ’74, president of JL White, LLC, and resident of Half Moon Bay, Calif., will receive the Alumnus of the Year Award recognizing outstanding service to the college and the RIC Alumni Association.

Retired Superintendent of Bristol Public Schools Ennis Bisbano ’55, M.Ed. ’61, a resident of Punta Gorda, Fla., will receive the Charles B. Willard Achievement Award for bringing honor to RIC through distinguished professional achievement.

U.S. Army Colonel Richard A. Paquette ’87, of Springfield, Va., will receive the Alumni Service Award recognizing a contribution to the college and outstanding citizenship.

Lincoln resident Natasha Reis ’06, a geriatric nurse navigator at Roger Williams Medical Center, will receive the Young Alumni Award recognizing contributions to the college made since her graduation.

RIC Professor of Music, Theatre and Dance Bill Wilson of Providence will receive the Alumni Faculty Award recognizing a RIC faculty member who has made a unique contribution to the college.

RIC Associate Director of Athletics Jo-Ann D’Alessandro ’88 of North Providence will receive the Alumni Staff Award in recognition of her unique contributions to the college.

RIC will honor former Vice President for Student Affairs Gary Penfield with a Special Lifetime Achievement Award. A resident of Greenville, R.I., Penfield retired from RIC last year after 38 years of service to the college.

Alumni Honor Roll Awards

RIC will also honor seven alumni with Alumni Honor Roll Awards. These awards are given to alumni who have graduated at least five years prior to their nomination and whose career successes demonstrate the value of a Rhode Island College degree. 

Faculty of Arts and Sciences Alumni Honor Roll Awards will be given to Edicta Grullon ’01, M.A. ’07, of Vienna, Austria, an international programs special projects coordinator for SOS Children’s Villages International; Jane Bucci O’Hora ’09 of Sebring, Fla., an optometric physician with Bucci Eye Care; and Thomas Coderre ’04 of Pawtucket, a senior advisor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The Feinstein School of Education and Human Development Alumni Honor Roll Award will be given to Tiverton resident Byron Johnson ’78, M.Ed. ’90, a special education teacher at Pawtucket’s Slater Junior High School.

The School of Management Alumni Honor Roll Award will be given to Warwick resident Jennifer Johnson ’00, the Executive Director of City Year Providence.

The School of Nursing Alumni Honor Roll Award will be given to North Scituate resident Susan Bryant, ’83, M.S.N. ’14, a staff nurse at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and a lactation consultant at Kent Hospital.

The School of Social Work Alumni Honor Roll Award will be given to North Providence resident Anna Cano-Morales, M.S.W. ’09, executive director, Rhode Island Latino Policy Institute.

RIC’s Alumni Association also will award seven $1,000 scholarships to outstanding RIC undergraduate students, one for each Honor Roll Award. Money for the Scholarships comes from contributions to the annual fund.

The Rhode Island College Alumni Association acts as a resource to over 56,000 alumni, about 70 percent of who live in Rhode Island.
