Raimondo Names Transition Team

General Treasurer-elect Gina Raimondo today announced the members of her transition team, which will be headed up by K. Joseph Shekarchi, a Warwick attorney who served as her campaign manager.

“I’ve assembled a talented team of leaders from Rhode Island’s private, public and non-profit sectors, with expertise relevant to the office of General Treasurer,” Raimondo said. “Leveraging their wealth of experience will be invaluable in charting our course, and staffing my office with qualified professionals who are ready to address our state’s financial challenges.”

Other team members notably include Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, former General Treasurer Paul Tavares, and George Zainyeh, former chief of staff to Congressman Patrick Kennedy.

“I look forward to working with this talented team to ensure a smooth transition that will let us immediately begin to work on the financial challenges facing Rhode Island,” Raimondo said. “I am grateful for their commitment and willingness to serve in this important effort.”

The transition team:

• Scott Avedisian, Mayor of the City of Warwick.
• Nellie Gorbea of North Kingstown, Executive Director of HousingWorks RI.
• Carol Grant of Providence, Senior Vice President, External Affairs for First Wind and former Chief of Operations for the City of Providence.
• David Preston, Esq. of East Greenwich, Founder and President of New Harbor Group, a Providence-based marketing communications agency.
• Armand E. Sabitoni of Cranston, Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) General Secretary-Treasurer and LIUNA New England Regional Manager.
• Edwin Santos of North Kingstown, Chairman of CharterCARE Health Partners.
• Paul Tavares of East Providence, Executive Director of the East Providence Housing Authority and former General Treasurer of the State of Rhode Island.
• George Zainyeh of Jamestown, vice president-strategic initiatives for The Princeton Review and former Chief of Staff in the office of Congressman Patrick Kennedy.
