Providence to Go Red for World AIDS Day

Nine downtown buildings in Providence will be illuminated in red to mark World AIDS Day, Providence Mayor David Cicilline announced today.

The following downtown buildings will be illuminated in red tonight at 6 pm:
▪ Blue Cross Blue Shield
▪ Providence Biltmore
▪ Bank of America City Center
▪ One Financial Plaza
▪ Providence City Hall
▪ GTECH
▪ State House

The lighting is part of RED, an initiative founded by U2 lead singer Bono and Bobby Shriver to fight AIDS in Africa.

Also at 6 p.m., Cicilline will host a World AIDS Day ceremony on the third floor of the Providence Biltmore Hotel.

The event will feature a performance by the dance group Project Ujima, poetry reading by Youth In Action and remarks from various community leaders including representatives from AIDS Care Ocean State, AIDS Project Rhode Island, Rhode Island Health Department, Thundermist, Miriam Hospital and Roger Williams Medical Center. The ceremony will be followed by a reception.
