Providence Audit Raises Deep Concerns on Taveras’ Budget

The Internal Auditor in a letter to the City Council's Ways and Means Committee is raising serious concerns about this year's budget crafted by Mayor Angel Taveras' administration. Across numerous major budget elelments costs are being overrun and revenue is under-performing.
According to Matthew Clarkin, the City of Providence's Internal Auditor a number of areas area triggering concerns. "Based upon the alalysis, the city will need to put in place corrective action plan in order to forestall a potential budget deficit for FY 2013.
The budget areas of concerns range from: in ability to manage police overtime, miscalculations in pension payments, and payments from non-profits not hitting the Mayor's calculated numbers.
