Providence 29th Most Stressful City, Says National Survey
Tuesday, September 07, 2010
Feeling stressed out? If you live in Providence, get in line.... behind 28 other American cities.
It turns out, according to pundits at Portfolio.com and bizjournals, that the capital city ranks 29th in a brand-new survey of the most stressful major American cities. That's one notch above Orlando, one below Nashville (Grand Ol' Opry-induced stress?)... and a long way from number-one ranked Detroit (New York City placed 6th, Hartford 25th, while Boston came in a relaxed 39th).
How'd Providence end up with its ranking? Porfolio.com created a 10-part formula that analyzed and weighted data on unemployment, income growth, poverty, death from circulatory system diseases, incidence of murder and robbery, pollution, commuting, housing costs, and how much sunshine there is. Riding the central statistical rails on all these factors is how Providence stayed squarely in the middle of the pack, according to data. Mediocre? Mellow? Mellow enough?
