Pothole Outrage: Drivers Sue City for $28k

Fifty one drivers are suing the City of Providence for more than $28,000 in damage local potholes caused to their vehicles, according to a listing of the claims obtained by GoLocalProv.

The claims range from $2,085 from one resident to just $83 from another. Those filing claims include a couple of notable local names, such as Vicki Virgilio, an employee in the city Law Department and the head of Local 1033, of the International Laborers Association of North America and Sharon Santilli, an Associate Director of the Department of Human Services.

The list shows that nearly half of the incidents involve seven streets: Hope Street is listed 10 times; Westminster Street, 3; Huntington Avenue, 3; Elmwood Avenue, 3; Allens Avenue, 3; Valley Street, 2; and Exchange Street along Kennedy Plaza, 2.

The claims will be heard tomorrow by the city’s Committee on Claims and Pending Suits.
