New Poll: Cicilline Gets Unfavorable Review from First District Voters

As more and more information surfaces about Congressman David Cicilline's role in Providence's current fiscal crisis, a new poll shows voters have an unfavorable opinion of his job performance.
A poll by RI-based Fleming & Asscociates for WPRI 12 TV showed that more than half of the voters surveyed had a poor opinion of him as a politician. The respondents were 300 registered voters in Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District. The survey has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus approximately 5.7 percent.
The poll also showed that President Barack Obama's job performance rating was 53 percent favorable, while U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse's had a 46 percent approval rating and Cicilline's was 23 percent.
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTThe poll also showed that Cicilline also took the bulk of the blame for Providence's fiscal crisis, with 21 percent targeting him directly; 17 percent named the economy, 13 percent the state, 8 percent the City Council, and 33 percent "all of the above."
The poll, conducted by Fleming & Associates for WPRI 12 TV, was done with a random sample of 300 Rhode Island 1st Congressional District registered voters. The interviews were conducted by phone between May 13 and May 15, 2011. Interviews were conducted only with registered voters in Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District who passed a screen designed to establish their registration status. For the sample of 300, the margin of error is 5.7 percent.
