Governor-elect Lincoln Chafee is advocating for a new 1% sales taxes on food, clothing and over-the-counter-drugs. He argues this will close Rhode Island's budget deficit and help to avoid further increases in property taxes. Critics claim the tax adversely effects mid and lower income residents and the 1% level is just the beginning. What's you view? Take the poll.
