Poll: 49 Percent Say Hispanic-White Relations Worse
Friday, April 30, 2010
Forty nine percent of U.S. voters say that relations between whites and Hispanics are worsening, according to a new poll released today by Rasmussen Reports.
Rhode Island has 121,000 Hispanic residents who comprise 11 percent of the total population, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.
The survey results come after the governor of Arizona last week signed a law, making it a crime to not carry immigration documents and allowing police to detain suspected illegal immigrants. The results are significant jump from December, when 40 percent of voters told pollsters that relations between the two groups were improving.
