NEW: Westerly Hospital in Receivership
Tuesday, December 06, 2011
Westerly Hospital has voluntarily filed for receivership, according to a letter sent out by the hospital’s Board of Trustees today.
The letter suggested that no changes will affect patients and the hospital will operate with the same staff, but it also pointed to several factors, including fact that it is among the lowest reimbursed hospitals in the state, as reason for the receivership filing.
The type of receivership filed is known as mastership, which ensures "good access to quality health care in the community as the primary interest."

The letter said there is no time frame for how long the process will last, but noted that the ultimate goal is to keep the hospital in operation.
