The United States has launched a military strike against Syria, following the recent chemical weapons attack on civilians and children earlier in the week.

According to CNN, U.S. warships launched at least 50 Tomahawk cruise missiles on President Donald Trump's orders at a Syrian government airbase, where the warplanes that carried out this past week's chemical attacks on civilians were based.

Trump made the following address at approximately 9:45 EST on Thursday evening:

Bashar Al-Assad launched a horrible chemical weapon attack on innocent civilians using a deadly nerve agent...it was a slow and brutal death for so many, even beautiful babies were cruelly murdered in this very barbaric attack. No child of God should ever suffer such horror.

Tonight I ordered a large military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched - it is in this vital national security interest of the U.S. to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.

There is no dispute Syria violated its obligation...and ignored the urging of the UN security council. I call on all civilized nations to end this bloodshed in Syria and end terror of all kinds and all types.
