Providence Mayor Angel Taveras announced today that he has appointed Natalia Rosa-Sosa to serve on the school board.

Her appointment now goes before the city council for confirmation. Rosa-Sosa recently served as a program associate at the Global Partnership Schools and a research assistant at the Roger Williams University Latino Policy Institute. She will be replacing Philip Gould, who recently resigned.

“The School Board plays an important role in shaping the future of public education in Providence. Becoming a member of the School Board is one of the most direct ways that a Providence resident can get involved and join in the efforts of transforming our schools. I am confident that Natalia will serve our children well,” Taveras said.

Rosa-Sosa was educated in Providence public schools. She attended Mary E. Fogarty and Martin Luther King Elementary, Nathan Bishop Middle School, and Hope High School.

“I believe all children in the city of Providence deserve and should receive a first class education. It is an honor to be nominated for the Providence school board by Mayor Taveras. As a school board member, I will work diligently to ensure that our children's education is a priority, where stakeholders can work together to enhance the quality of their education,” said Rosa-Sosa.

Nine people applied for the position and four finalists were interviewed.
