NEW: Sequestration Hot Topic at Chamber Congressional Breakfast
Monday, April 15, 2013
This morning's Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce annual Congressional Breakfast saw Rhode Island's delegation in concert about a number of issues -- the adverse impact of sequestration being one of them.
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse told the crowd in attendance of over 500 business and community leaders that sequestration was in part responsible for the shut-down of Waterfires, as the Army Corps of Engineers no longer had sufficient funding to open and close the hurricane barrier as necessary for the event.
The delegation also hit upon the other pertinent issues in Washington facing Rhode Island, such as Obamacare, as well as the President's proposed cuts to Social Security.
