NEW: Senate Judiciary Schedules Hearing on Same-Sex Marriage

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

The Senate Judiciary Committee will hear legislation on same-sex marriage next Thursday.

The fight over same-sex marriage in Rhode Island is back on.

A little less than two months after same-sex marriage was passed by the House of Representatives in a historic move, the Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled its first hearing on the issue next Thursday.

The committee will hold hearings on two bills, the first an identical bill to the one that was passed in the House from Senators Nesselbush, Sosnowski, Miller, Pichardo, Ottiano that would redefine marriage in the state. The second, which was just introduced this afternoon, would allow voters to decide the measure.
