The Rhode Island Lottery is pleased to announce that the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) has selected Rhode Island as the host state for the 2013 Annual NASPL Convention. NASPL is the trade association for 52 Lotteries from the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as well as delegates representing International Lotteries.

Gerald Aubin, Director of the Rhode Island Lottery, lobbied for the opportunity for Rhode Island to host this event. “The final decision”, he said, “was made at the recent NASPL Conference held in Indiana, and it is with great excitement and pride that I can announce the selection of Providence, Rhode Island, as the location for the Annual Conference in 2013.”

Aubin went on to say the Conference will be held from September 29, 2013 through October 3, 2013, and is anticipated to draw close to 1,000 attendees and exhibitors. With an estimated 600 hotel rooms needed for the peak nights and the anticipated utilization of 40,000 square feet of trade show space, Director Aubin described this an economic boost not only for the city of Providence, but for all of Rhode Island, saying “A host city’s local economy typically reaps at least $1 million in ancillary benefits from this Conference, not including the benefit to the Convention Center or the preferred hotel.”

NASPL officials have selected the Westin as the host hotel, with the Biltmore, Hilton, and Marriott Courtyard serving as backup hotels.

“While we at the Lottery have much work ahead, we are extremely excited to have this opportunity to showcase the beauty of Providence and the Ocean State to so many people from all around the world”, Aubin said.
