Senator Jack Reed has issued the following statement on the Boston Marathon:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and our heartfelt thanks go out to those first responders, medical personnel, volunteers, and citizens who were on the scene to help those in need. I have faith that law enforcement will get to the bottom of this and hold whoever is responsible accountable to the fullest extent.”

Governor Lincoln Chafee:

"I was shocked and saddened to learn of the events that have taken place in Boston today. The thoughts and prayers of the people of our state are with the victims and their families and all of our neighbors in Massachusetts. Representatives of the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency, National Guard, and State Police are in close contact with their counterparts in Massachusetts and have offered their full support and cooperation during this difficult time. Thankfully, I have not learned of any Rhode Islanders injured, but my office will provide an update should any further information become available."

Congressman Jim Langevin:

“My thoughts are with all of the victims of the Boston Marathon explosions and their loved ones on this terrible day. In the midst of a horrifying scene, with many Rhode Islanders in attendance, we can be thankful for the bravery and selflessness of emergency responders at the event, other medical personnel treating the wounded, and ordinary Americans whose first instincts were to do whatever they could to help one another. I am also grateful for the vigilance of law enforcement working to take all possible precautions and avoid jumping to conclusions as they track down every lead to find whoever did this and bring them to justice.”

Congressman David Cicilline

“At times like this, words fail to capture our sense of disbelief, the pain we feel in our hearts, and the anger we hold towards anyone who would do such great harm to so many innocent lives. I thank President Obama for his immediate decision to provide any and all necessary assistance for this investigation, and I am deeply grateful to the heroic first responders who are providing critical assistance to these victims. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Boston tonight.”

US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse

“My heart goes out to those harmed in today’s explosions in Boston. Our first responders and many citizens responded bravely. I know that all Rhode Islanders have our Massachusetts neighbors in their thoughts and prayers today.”
