NEW: Rhode Island Not Planning to Close Highways—Yet

Monday, October 29, 2012

While Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy has ordered all trucks off the highways as the state braces for Hurricane Sandy, Governor Lincoln Chafee’s office says Rhode Island isn’t yet planning to do the same.

“Not at this time,” Chafee spokesperson Christine Hunsinger said when asked if the state is considering closing the highways.

The strongest winds are expected to come between 3pm and 3am. The towns of Westerly, Narragansett, Bristol and South Kingstown have already issued evacuation notices.
