U.S. Senator Jack Reed is calling on Congressional leaders to scrap plans to adjourn for the holidays unless Congress finishes important work on funding the government, extending payroll tax cuts, and providing unemployment benefits for families that have been hit hardest by the economic downturn.

“There has been too much partisan gridlock in Washington and not enough results. Congress needs to stay in session until an agreement can be reached to cut taxes for working families and provide critical assistance to the millions of Americans who are out there looking for work. Holidays have a way of bringing people together and Congress should not adjourn until we get the job done,” said Reed.
