NEW: Reed Extends Application Deadline for U.S. Service Academy Nominations
Wednesday, October 31, 2012
U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) today announced that the deadline for students seeking his military Academy Nomination will be extended from October 31st to November 5th. Congressional nominations are required for applications to the prestigious military academy programs. Students offered appointments will receive full scholarships and can graduate as commissioned officers in the U.S. military.

“Due to the severe impact of Hurricane Sandy, the application deadline for students seeking an Academy Nomination through my office has been extended to November 5th,” said Reed.
For students who already completed their application file for Reed’s Academy Nomination, interviews by appointment on next Thursday, November 8th and Friday, November 9th will continue as scheduled.
Interested students with questions on the application process should contact Reed’s Cranston office at (401) 943-3100.
Students wishing to attend service academies must meet high academic and physical standards. Applicants must be legal Rhode Island residents and United States citizens, at least 17 years of age, with no children or other legal dependents. Students attending the service academies are on active duty starting the day they enter an academy.

At one time veterans like Jack Reed were the majority and could influence congress to do the right thing. Now he is surrounded by “chicken hawks” doing anything to get reelected. I suggest that Senator Reed encourage his new, and past, military constituents to get involved in government. God knows that “professional politicians” do not have the discipline or integrity to solve our country’s serious long-term problems.
