NEW: Raimondo Announces “Governor for a Day” Winner

Governor Gina Raimondo announced on Tuesday that 11 year old Khatima Bulmer has won an essay contest to become Governor for a Day. Bulmer is from Thompson Middle School in Newport and wrote an essay on the meaningful role of public service and send it in to the contest.
"It would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend a day meeting and speaking with other leaders across the state government!" Khatima said in her essay.
Raimondo's essay contest was designed to help celebrate Women's History Month and she received over 580 essay's.

Following Governor Raimondo's announcement, Khatima read her essay and took questions from the media.
Bulmer's term as Governor for a Day will be served at a later date.
Finalists Revealed
There were four other finalists in the contest and they were Emma Boucher of Cranston, Ibiolatiwa Akomolafe of Pawtucket, Celeste Humphrey of Little Compton and Michaela Washburn of Scituate.
"I am also extremely proud of the other four finalists who all wrote stellar essays, Ibiolatiwa Akomolafe of Pawtucket, Emma Boucher of Cranston, Celeste Humphrey of Little Compton, and Michaela Washburn of Scituate spoke with intelligence beyond their years on how to improve Rhode Island. I know that their parents and communities are also very proud of them," said Gina Raimondo.
