Providence City Councilman John J. Igliozzi, in response to news of arrests made relating to the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Aynis Vargas in June, released the following statement:

“I offer my deepest condolences to the family of Aynis Vargas, whose life ended tragically in our city. Today, we have the consolation of knowing that those suspected of involvement in her death have been apprehended, and are off our streets. I would like to thank Providence Police Chief Colonel Hugh Clements, the Providence Police Detectives Bureau, and all the officers who have worked tirelessly on this case."

"Nothing can replace a life that is taken, but at least for the family Aynis Vargas, they are one step closer to seeing justice accomplished on behalf of their little girl. I also want to thank Mayor Angel Taveras for his efforts working with the police, the community, and the City Council to bring an end to the violence on our streets, and to keep our children safe.”
