NEW: Providence College Reported Incorrect SAT Data to U.S. News

Providence College has reported to U.S. News that it misreported data on the average SAT and ACT scores for its fall 2012 entering class, which was used for the publication’s 2014 Best Colleges rankings.
According to Providence College, it mistakenly sent scores for students that had been accepted rather than those for enrolled students, which the reporting standard stipulates. The school has since provided U.S. News with the new data that it is maintains is correct.
The Incorrect Data
Although Providence College originally reported a 624 average SAT math score to U.S. News, the actual score should have been reported as 580. Additionally, the school’s average SAT critical reading score should have been reported as 569 rather than 611.

The Verdict
Despite Providence College’s misreporting, the error is not substantial enough to affect the school’s rank in the 2014 Best Colleges rankings published earlier this month—meaning that the school’s #2 Regional University (North) ranking will stand.
The publication has corrected the misreported data, which can be viewed here. U.S. News also added the following statement to Providence College's college profile: "Update: Providence College originally supplied incorrect ranking data for the 2014 edition of Best Colleges. The data have been replaced with new data where provided by the school. The school's ranking is unchanged. Read more at the Morse Code blog."
