NEW: Pride Flags Reportedly Torn Down in Providence’s Federal Hill
Tuesday, August 29, 2017
State Representative John Lombardi is speaking out on reports that pride flags were torn down from homes on Federal Hill -- and says that he hopes the city prosecutes whoever is responsible.
"I just found out about it, so I don't know many details," said Lombardi, who was first elected to House District 8 in 2012. "I think it's a hate crime, and I think authorities [will] prosecute the abhorrent behavior accordingly."
Addressing the Issue

"I think the gay community has a lot of supporters," said Lombardi, who had previously served as Providence City Council President and Interim Mayor. "There's a lot of students, hipsters, yuppie here, and I think this community will coalesce around this. I just had a gay couple ask me last week for a flag in fact."
"I'm urging everyone to coalesce around this issue and be vigilant," said Lombardi. "I expect full prosecution. Let who did it try and explain their conduct."
"I'm very surprised -- this neighborhood has come a long way," added Lombardi. "Whatever I can do, I'm by their side. Whoever did this, they're cowards."
