A Change.org petition has been started -- addressed to Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Congressman Jim Langevin - to try and ban Chicago rap artist Chief Keef from performing in West Warwick on October 28, but questions remain who is really behind the effort.

The petition, started by a "Juan Carter" (more below) urges the elected officials to ban the rapper.

See Petition HERE

The petition states:

GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLAST

If you are unfamiliar with rapper Chief Keef, he's a violent street gang member from Chicago, one of the most violent cities in the United States, where gangs boast about the amount of murders that take place in their city on a daily basis.

Chief Keef celebrates gun violence, drug selling, gang affiliation, assault & murder.

With the amount of gun violence, rampant gangs and drug abuse that is plaguing our country we are ashamed that the town of Warwick would be complacent in hosting such an individual and all that he represents in his music/message.

Who is Behind Effort?

Juan Carter with the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence in Providence says that he is not the Juan Carter behind the petition.

The picture used in the petition is tied to a Facebook page, "Jborn Black Starr," who lists his current job as CEO of "True Black Starr Music Publishing BMI," who has been promoting the petition on his page.

Community leader Kobi Dennis, who signed the petition, said he has issues with Keef performing in Rhode Island.

"I know the youth in my community won't be very happy with me. Actually the promoters are friends of mine. Bottom line - he is a gangster rapper that I believe to be extremely influential. Almost every kid imprisoned that I worked with since he's been out as a rap artist idolizes this young rapper from Chicago," said Dennis.

"I am a huge rap fan and I have seen NWA the movie and plenty of explicit shows in providence of the same sort over the years. I just believe, the time and the mood of our inner city youth right now is completely unstable. I believe Chief Keef will only inflame old and current "beef" in our city and he will be headed back to Chicago with very little concern while our kids are shooting up the block."

Editor's Note:  The venue that is the target of the petition is in West Warwick; however the petition creator lists Warwick in the petition itself.
