The Occupy Providence protesters will vote Wednesday on whether to leave their encampment in Burnside Park in exchange for the city opening up a temporary homeless shelter.

The protesters would remove their belongings from the park by Jan. 2 if the group votes in favor of leaving.

It is unclear how many people are actually camping in the park anymore. As the weather has gotten colder, the park has appeared less occupied than when the movement started in October.

The city had requested the protesters leave the park, but has not attempted to remove them using police force.
