Friday, July 08, 2011
The Rhode Island Board of Regents gave final approval to a new charter school set to open in Providence this fall.
The Rhode Island Nurses Institute (RINI) Middle College Charter School will serve over 100 students in its first year with a goal to attract prospective nursing students from communities across Rhode Island. The school’s curriculum will challenge students to earn a high school diploma, Certified Nursing Assistant’s (CNA) credential, and will better prepare students for a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
The school’s campus will be located 150 Washington Street in downtown.
“We are thrilled that the Board of Regents has shown confidence in our vision and plan to open the Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College.,” said Dr. Robert Pilkington, superintendent. “Tonight’s vote brings us one step closer to providing more choice and educational options to young men and women who are interested in a career in nursing and who hail from communities that are traditionally underrepresented in our state’s colleges and universities.”
