Taveras’ comments came as more than 100 protesters marched to City Hall to deliver a statement to the Mayor’s office expressing their intent to remain in the Burnside Park “for however long it takes to build a society by, for and of the people.”

The Mayor was in attendance as the group also held a press conference prior to the march

During the march to City Hall, Taveras was asked why the city allowed the protesters to sleep in the park in the first place.

“We never gave them that right,” he said.

Taveras then confirmed that legal action will likely begin this week.

“We’ll start the process probably this week,” he said.

Editor's Note: The original headline incorrectly stated that protesters will be removed this week. The legal process will likely begin this week.
