NEW: Major Unions Reach Agreements in Central Falls
Wednesday, November 23, 2011
Governor Lincoln D. Chafee and Central Falls Receiver Robert G. Flanders, Jr. today announced that the Central Falls police, fire, and municipal employees unions have each signed new collective bargaining agreements with the city.
“This is an encouraging sign that the City of Central Falls and its unions are working together to put the city back on the right track,” Governor Chafee said. “I thank the unions for coming to the table in good faith to negotiate contracts that will help Central Falls live within its means. I also applaud Judge Flanders for his ongoing hard work to position the city to emerge from this period stronger than before.”
“It's always better when this can be done by agreement and labor worked with us every step of the way,” Judge Flanders said. “These agreements represent a significant step in our efforts to transform Central Falls into a financially viable city while maintaining the essential services on which city residents depend. I want to thank all parties for negotiating in a spirit of cooperation and common purpose.”
