Michael Napolitano, the official spokesperson for the John Loughlin campaign, issued a statement today regarding the Congressional maps drawn up for redistricting.

According to Napolitano, the maps proposed to date favor Congressman David Cicilline. One map moves John Loughlin entirely out of Congressional District 1. The most recent map E moves Burrillville, Smithfield and North Smithfield into Congressional District 2. John Loughlin won in these areas in 2010. This map also moves much more of Providence into Congressional District 1, an area that will help David Cicilline.

Said Napolitano, “Most of the Congressional redistricting maps that have been proposed appear to be a blatant attempt to save Congressman David Cicilline. Map E displaces more than 100,000 voters when in fact only roughly 7,000 need to be moved. Cicilline’s approval numbers are extremely low and the voters will not be fooled by this tactic.”
