NEW: Local Unions Endorse Joe Almeida for State Rep.

Friday, August 31, 2012

UNITE-HERE 217 and SEIU Locals 615 and District 1199 New England SEIU endorsed Joe Almeida in the Democratic Primary for State Representative in House District 12. The three unions cited Almeida’s commitment to fighting for the working families of Providence and Rhode Island and his record of bringing honesty and integrity to public service.

"I am proud our union is standing up to support Joe Almeida for State Representative," said Laura Caceres, a member of SEIU Local 615 and a contracted janitor in downtown Providence. She added "As workers, we need representatives who will stand up and fight for us. I know Joe will be a strong voice for us in the State House and in our community.”

“I am proud that Local 217 is supporting Joe Almeida because he represents and fights for workers. Now is the time that we need a real presence in the State House for the working class,” Gricelda Cruz, laundry department at the Biltmore Hotel and District 12 voter.

Almeida expressed enthusiasm over receiving the endorsement from three of the most politically active unions in Providence and Rhode Island.

"I am thrilled to be endorsed by labor unions who represent the working class," said Joe Almeida. "SEIU District 1199, SEIU Local 615 and UNITE HERE Local 217 have long histories of standing up for workers' rights and economic justice and I can't wait to go up to the State House to fight for a stronger middle class."

vin coia

unbelievable . really no choice for those constituents , either the twice indicted media ,
or the entrenched with leadership political hack , almeida .
who only pushes for racial isuues , and despite 5 personal bankrupcies ,
was asigned to the financial comittee last go around .

Really James

That's funny because his opponent was endorsed by Firefighters Union, Fraternal Order of Police, Local 94 and AFLCIO, but yet Mr. Almeida seems to keep attacking his opponents character because he can't attack him on issues. His opponent has been doing a great job in his community despite all the attacks on him personally. He has not been convicted of anything but Mr. Almeida had been convicted of assault (public record)claimed bankruptcy more than allowed by law, one of his team members had been charged with kidnapping, rape and plead to felony assault, served 23 years in prison for robbery, and was accused of fire bombing and ACI guards house(public record) look it up, also his team members had been thrown off police department for cheating to get ahead, now who's throwing rocks at the glass house, hummmm! But no one wants to hear all those thing, do they

dis gusted

In the entire article it does not say who Joe is running against.
The reporter never mentions the opponent There is no mention of
whoever it is. What kind of sloppy reporting is this??
Not everyone lives in this district and knows who the players are...
Journalism is going right down the toilet....
