NEW: Langevin to Address Retirement Security Issues with Wakefield Seniors

Monday, August 20, 2012

As part of a day spent meeting with constituents in South County, Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) will discuss ways to ensure all Americans can have a secure retirement with residents of Wakefield’s Brightview Commons retirement community on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at 3pm.

In the wake of increased attention on Republican proposals to end the Medicare guarantee and privatize Social Security, advocated by Congressman Paul Ryan as the party’s Vice Presidential nominee, Langevin will address steps he supports to control these programs’ costs without simply shifting the burden onto seniors who cannot afford it.

Among a series of stops in the area earlier in the day, Langevin will tour the Jonnycake Center in Peace Dale at 11am and visit the Marina Park Farmers Market at 2pm.

With heated debates about the makeup of the federal budget continuing in Washington, Langevin says it is critical to remember that when we pursue policies that support the middle class, from access to a quality education and job training through retirement, it provides increased opportunities for all Americans.

Now he's finally worried about Medicare and Social Security? What the heck has he been doing for the past decade? Oh that's right, absolutely nothing of significance.
