John Matson, who has now run unsuccessfully against Langevin twice, said Collins “embodies what needs to happen” in Washington

“Abel is the kind of person I have been trying to get involved,” Matson said. “He embodies what needs to happen, and while I may not agree with him on every point, this is the direction that we must go.”

Matson garnered 26 percent of the votes last week’s election. Now Collins and Republican candidate Mike Riley are challenging Langevin in the general election.

“This demonstrates that what we have is a three way race where an independent can win because the real majority in the district is Independent,” Matson said. “Plus, the Republicans aren’t really excited by a NYC hedge fund manager bent on buying the election, and the Democrats aren’t excited about the underperforming incumbent who holds different views than they do.”
