NEW: Hinckley Rips Dems for Failing to Pass Budget

Thursday, May 17, 2012

Barry Hinckley’s Senate campaign expressed its disappointment today in the “partisan charades” that has led the Senate to not pass a budget in more than 1,100 days.

“The Senate is broken. The House is broken. This budget process is broken” Hinckley said. “Elected officials have failed to lead, and now is time for the country to rise up and say ‘Enough is Enough.’ The six (6) hours of debate yesterday was just more political theatre. Neither amendments nor unlimited debate were allowed by the Democratic leadership, which leads me to believe that Congress is content to continuously run trillion-plus dollar deficits every year.”

Since the last budge passed, the federal government has spent $10.6 trillion, and the federal debt has skyrocketed by $5 trillion, the campaign said.

“This is completely unacceptable. It has become clear that many politicians, Sheldon Whitehouse included, simply don’t think that deficits matter,” said Hinckley. “This is yet another sign of how out-of-touch our career politicians are. If Sheldon Whitehouse doesn’t think living within a budget is important, maybe he should tell that to our children, who will be forced to live with higher taxes and reduced services thanks to his irresponsibility. He should tell that to our Seniors, who find that their Social Security checks buy less and less each month. And he should tell Rhode Islanders struggling to find work in an economy overburdened by public debt.”
