U.S. Senate candidate Barry Hinckley today responded to the recent CNBC survey of the top states for business. Sadly, for the second year in a row, Rhode Island came in dead last.

“The political choices we make have consequences,” stated Hinckley. “Decades of overspending, over-regulation, and over-taxation have led us to this unfortunate situation. It should be no surprise that unemployment in our Ocean State continues to hover around 11% - one of the worst jobless rates in the country.”

“It is no coincidence that policies that are bad for business are also bad for jobs,” Hinckley said. “Even more shocking is Senator Whitehouse’s recent comments that he ‘doesn't know a single small business in Rhode Island that is going to be made or broken by tax rates.’ Yes, he actually said that. Unfortunately, Sheldon Whitehouse has taken the same bad policies that have destroyed Rhode Island's economy to Washington, DC. He continues to support higher taxes, more regulation, and more spending. The results have been predictable: a high cost to do business in America, leading to more outsourcing and more Americans out of work.”
