NEW: Hazardous Weather Warning in Effect in RI Through Tuesday Evening

While thousands of Rhode Islanders are without power following Tuesday morning's powerful storms, the National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather warning in Rhode Island, effective for this afternoon and tonight.

Providence, Newport, Kent, Washington and Bristol Counties are all included in the warning, as is Block Island.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a moderate probability for scattered strong to severe thunderstorms, in addition to heavy rain and lightning. There also is the potential for large hail, strong to damaging winds, and the possibility of a tornado has not been ruled out.

There is also a concern over urban and poor-draining flooding, with all threats continuing into the evening.

SOUTHEASTERN MASSACHUSETTS...AND RHODE ISLAND.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

THERE IS A MODERATE PROBABILITY FOR SCATTERED STRONG TO SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS. IN ADDITION TO HEAVY RAIN AND LIGHTNING...THERE IS
POTENTIAL FOR LARGE HAIL AND STRONG TO DAMAGING WINDS. CANNOT
RULE OUT A POSSIBLE TORNADO. URBAN AND POOR-DRAINING FLOODING IS
ALSO A CONCERN. THREATS CONTINUE INTO THE EVENING HOURS.

NO HAZARDOUS WEATHER IS EXPECTED AT THIS TIME.
